- MSGTRETIREDCSPExplorerYep, I had that happen to me last winter. It wasn't that hard to take the top half of the bowl off. I re-installed a new seal. Works fine now. You could just clean and re-install the current seal, but if that didn't work, that means you get to disassemble twice. Just out of curiousity, did anyone clean the toilet with an abrasive or toilet cleaner? My wife did on ours with spic & span. That's what started it to leaking. I tried tightining the band clamp around the outside of the seal, but that didn't work, so I just bought a new one. Good luck.
- bobsallyhExplorer IIYou can try plumbers grease (silicon grease). Available at hardware stores in the plumbing section. Rub some on the seal and the flapper.
- path1ExplorerI would try again and again maybe for months with "deposits" removal or wait till your in a real toilet fixing mood.
When you say "checked" I assume you run some type of scraper around seal? I have a very small putty knife. Cut part of handle off a regular size that now fits nicely to run around rubber gasket. And sooner or later with time on your side "deposits" will decompose anyways. Just my 2 cents worth.
