Goodyear makes a all steel G weight range 16" tire. I think the rating is 3710 pounds at 110 PSI cold. That is what is normally found on 7,000 pound rated axles.
What about the 17" rims found on the recent Ford pickups? How much is that tire rated at? I heard that the 18" rim is even a little higher weight rating.
17.5 is a commercial tire, and not a lot of local stores will carry that tire, so best to carry a spare. 19.5" tires are used on a lot of class 6 trucks, so most every small farming community will have at least a couple sizes of 19.5" tires on hand. 17" and 18" found in millions of F-250's and F-350's mean that local tire shops across the country now stock a few of those tires for the local population.
Ricksontruck.com does sell 17.5" dually type rims for motorhomes built on the E-450 chassis. To bad they are not building 17.5" rims for the older pre-97 F-53 chassis, I might buy some if they did. I also have a weight dis-ability on my motorhome, with it's 6,000 pound front axle and 3042 pound rated tires. I am near the capacity of that axle, and considering I drive down a road with curves, and the RV leans side to side, each tire is overloaded when it is the side being leaned on in a curve. I would much rather have 3,400 pound rated tire, even if the rim and axle is only rated at 3,000 pounds. It would give me 10% more piece of mind!
