Considering going back to a toy hauler after a brief forage into the Class C world. Looking at a 42' Sunnybrook that popped up on my radar. Would be Rv biggest TH I've had and my first 5th wheel. I have a 2008 2500HD Duramax. Not worried about power, but stability? Is this too much trailer? I'm not worried about the weight police, just reality. No flaming please, just good info. Thanks!

If you are not worried, go for it. The idea of a big bad 35'+ trailer on a 3/4 ton truck scares a lot of folks on this toyhauler site. The one thing they mention is what you mentioned. Stability. So its really up to you. Everything a 1 ton has a 3/4 basiclly has minus the obivious duals, a leaf spring. The power is the same standard gearing is the same and brakes. Like always the trailer has its own brakes to stop itself.

What are you going to put in it? What do you think the total weight is going to be. Hopefully it has brakes on all three axles. I've often pulled heavier with a similar PU but I would not pull this trailer with several toys and my family in the truck. I made the mistake of weighing my load and went out and bought a FL70. There is another 06 in CA for $30K.

I towed my 43ft Raptor with a SRW 2008 Ford F350 for a year but ended up getting a Dually because I wasn't happy with the stability of the SRW truck.

Some figures from NADA and the Net on that model...13,200 lbs dry and 42' long, a 2600 lb hitch weight, the loaded weight around 18,000 lbs.

I should probably mention that I have auto air bags and rear sway bars as shown here:Bags and BarsBefore anyone loses their minds at this statement, I understand that doesn't increase the GVW as shown on the sticker, but it does make the load more manageable. I have towed heavier than this before; just not a 5th wheel and not an RV.

If a 42' is not to big for a 3/4 ton, then there are hardly any that are too big as there are not many toy haulers that are bigger. I know there are a few, but not many.

At least a F-450 or the equivalent. But...darn nice TH. You will love it. My next TV will be a semi-tractor...but I do like and use my 4X4 too often as long as we live in the mountains.

If you are wondering about it, the answer is probably yes - it is too much.

Better to have more truck than you need, rather than need more truck than you have!

Yes it's too much trailer. It is far from an ideal match. There are better options.

That's a big trailer. That's also a heavy pin weight too. And that's with nothing else. Where do you plan to tow it? Since you asked about stability, I don't think its a good match. Imo, of course.
