I have a RDS from Northern also and the check engine light came on on my 07 chev. I found out that by opening the valve when parked for lunch or rest stops gave enough fuel rather than having it always running into the truck tank cured that problem, and it really wasn't a problem as it did nothing to affect the engine. Now with my 11 chev I added a ball valve in the wheel well to make that easier to turn on/off. Now I open/close valve easy and does not set CE light.
I think some of the new computer checks get confused with the level not dropping while driving.. that MUST mean the fuel level sensor is bad!..
(thus the CEL)
