Tool Box

I have a 2019 Silverado 2500HD 4-Wheel Drive Crew Cab with a 6'6" bed. I want to install a 5th Wheel Pullrite #2700 Slider Hitch. Is there enough room to put a tool box behind the cab? If so what kind, make and model please.

Thanks

Greg
  • I have a toolbox behind my pullrite with a 6.5 foot Ram bed. You will have to test it out turning the hitch both directions.
  • Thanks for the info.....I haven't bought a tool box yet, just trying to see if it is possible.....
  • To paraphrase our former governor, the tools you wIll want to take will overfill whatever size tool box you install. A lathe and drill press are nice to have BTW.

Install the hitch and measure the room you have to put one in.
  • If you search for tool "chest" rather than tool "box" you will find the ones that fit entirely down below the rails. No "wings" raising it above the truck box.

I first bought a winged version and it made visibility from the driver's seat a real problem. Luckily my son could use that one and a chest down in the bed made things better. Still some sightlines blocked, but much better.

Also, you can fit a soft tonneau cover over a chest. Not so with a winged box.
  • Just went through a toolbox search. You can definitely fit a chest style, which does not extend up above the truck bed rails. The only question is what size will fit.

Take a look at this link below. This particular one would fit, but more importantly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and see the list of all their chest style sizes. Other brands have similar sizes.

    Weatherguard Tool Chest

I think you could also use a low profile cross-bed saddle style, since you have a slider, and some of those are even narrower, as small as 16" wide and 13" deep. That shallow depth might be helpful to avoid the front hitch mounting rail or puck.

You'll be in a better position to search once you get your hitch mounted, but the short answer is you can definitely fit a toolbox.
