- ScottGNomadAs far as tools, I think it really depends on how much of a DIY'r you are. If your very handy you'll want to bring a lot more tools. I do some Handyman work for a couple of people and I have a "Dr's bag" that weighs about 65#. With it and a cordless driver I can work through just about any repair.
Most importantly, think about what chores you may have to attempt. Flat tire, bearing repacks, brake adjustments, electrical and plumbing repairs, etc. The normal tasks associated with your type of RV and lifestyle will dictate the tools you'll need.
I do have a safety vest and flares in case I have to work on the side of the road. - mat60ExplorerAs far as safety gear maybe a first aid kit and some reflectors to put down so you don't get hit on the side of the road. I do have a long list of tools I'm working on to keep in the TT. Is this what your asking for?
- Rock_WellsExplorerA first-aid kit, couple of blankets and gi ponchos, road flares, shovel, axe, food & h2o fo two for three days, basic tools...
- B_O__PlentyExplorer IISafety triangles (never used them, yet), fire extinguisher, 20 ton bottle jack, torque wrench, 12 volt Vi-Aire compressor, toolbox with misc. socket set, wrench set, breaker bar, wd-40, silicon spray, Gorilla tape, misc screws, bolts nuts, wire. Gloves, hat, heavy jacket. I can usually fix most anything on the road if needed even if only temporarily.
B.O. - old_guyExplorerI carry a cordless drill to put my stabilizers up and down and a craftsman tool kit in the plastic box. Once a nephew needed some super glue and I didn't have any. So now I carry super glue and nobody has asked for it lately. years ago I had much too many tools aboard my TT. My in laws were packing up for a fishing trip we were going on and they wondered if they had everything. they knew if they forgot anything I would have it. I started trimming the fat so to speak after that.
- memtbExplorerAlong with those items already stated (I may duplicate previous post). As we boondock a bit (miles from anywhere....heck we live miles from anywhere :) ), we take a lot. Electric test meter, fuses (tow vehicle/5er), quality (3M cold weather use) electrical tape, shrink/crimp wire connectors, spare bulbs, and zip-ties. Coveralls, gloves, small tarp ( when you have to crawl under in snow/ mud, etc.). Tire plug kit, small air compressor, air pressure gauge, oil (generator/ tow vehicle), premixed antifreeze, brake fluid ( if you have hydraulic disc brakes on 5er), cables/chains for both ( especially the 5er if you do any winter towing), ratchet straps ( multitude of uses... can even hold axle up if you burn a wheel bearing).
If you have the clothing/ tools/ability you can ( though not fun), change-out hub, bearings, and “dress” spindle with a file at a campsite. SEE....above note about burned wheel bearing! Proper clothing.....important when day time temps in single digits.
If you RV enough.you will experience everything the RV lifestyle has to offer.... good and bad! :) - BarneySExplorer IIILots of good suggestions above but don't forget the most important tool in your toolbox - your credit card! :)
Barney - TerryallanExplorer III now carry an extra pair of glasses. and of course a jack, and lug wrench, and pliers to tighten loose connections. not much more. I ain't goin to work
- Pangaea_RonExplorerI also carry a reflective vest. Keep your tools and emergency gear on the passenger side of the RV.
In WA state we need to carry tire chains while crossing mountain passes during the winter months when we are over 10,000 pounds. - DurbExplorerI carry sufficient tools to do a drum and bearing swap on the side of the road. Needless to say I carry an extra drum with the bearings pressed in. I also have the right size sockets to drain the water heater and a quality #2 Robertson screwdriver that fits most things on the trailer. Kneeling pad and plenty of nitrile gloves. I carry a bar clamp that supports my ladder to the ground when I have to get on the roof, just don't trust that thing. I like the idea of the safety vest. I have one in the closet that I will move to the trailer this afternoon.
