You don't need many tools but you need the right tools for the job. There are things like getting the water heater anode out that need the right tool. Lots of tools in the sets are useless but you had better have the one you need when you need it.
Fortunately a knock on a few doors of others in the CG will yield whatever it is that you don't have. All are happy to help. Someday your turn will come to be the provider of what is needed.
