Total Newbie

Hello everyone. I have a newbie question. I have never really messed with toy haulers or travel trailers. Infact, I don't even own one. One day I would like to but today is not that day.

I am looking to rent a 24' Funrunner for a weekend trip to Glamis. I found out that the trailer I intend to rent only has propane and no generator. As some of you may know, Glamis does not have hook ups. So I will need a generator. Luckily, my grandpa just purchased a 7500 watt generator last week.

What will I need to be able to hook up the generator to the toy hauler? Are there any questions I should ask the rental place about the toy hauler before buying anything?

Thanks,
Brandon
  • I think that's bad advice, bdecker.

I wouldn't encourage a first time RVer to head out to the dunes in a rental that probably only has one 12v battery that's been trashed by renters instead of maintained by a caring owner and expect him to have a good time. If he has access to a decent generator, by all means hook it up and use it. I don't think you're doing him any favors by telling him to cross his fingers and tough it out.

He got some good advice from Big Buford.
  • I told him to cross his fingers? Ok I hope the next newbie with a 7KW Craftsman genset is camped right next to you. Believe it not not people can actually survive a weekend camping trip without a genset or even a battery. You make it sound like a dangerous outing where their survival is only assured by the possession of a noisy generator. I'm surprised you're not concerned about the fact that the rental trailer doesn't even have a TV Goodness how will they ever survive?

Wow, that digressed quickly....good tips have been given. Nothing wrong with the generator...desert and AC are good combos. Camp on and enjoy!!

I think the confusion lies in the fact you may have never camped at glamis? His genny will be one of the quietest things out there. Thousands of uncorked v8 rails, quads and sxs running around at all hours.

You just cannot compare that to camipng up in the mountains.

Welcome to the Toy Hauler forum. We're..."different".

Wow- that shot really shows just how much the water level in Lake Mead has dropped.
  • Thanks for the help guys. Just to be clear, why would I want to rent a toy hauler if I were going to be roughing it anyways? If that were the case, I would just bring my tent. I plan on having a fun weekend of riding so I don't want to hassle with camping and roughing it. I think most of you managed to get that point across though and I thank you. And big buford is correct, me running a generator is probably going to be the quitest thing out there on a halloween weekend. I do appreciate the information that actually did help out though.
