I think you guys need to go back and read my first post on this thread. I gave some sensible advice and then somebody came in saying that you can't tow anything bigger than a 10,000 lb trailer with a 3/4 ton. Don't take it out of context, I was just pointing out how ridiculous that theory is. I fully understand all the aspects of matching truck and trailer and did not suggest that anybody should tow a large fifth wheel with a half ton truck.
Personally I think the ratings on the half ton trucks have gotten ridiculous. Do you really think it is wise to tow and/or carry heavy loads with a truck that doesn't even have a full floating rear? It is a heck of a lot easier to deal with a blowout or flat tire than it is to recover from the rear wheel actually passing you!
