What vehicle would be best to tow a Momentum 385TH ? will be purchasing a little later as now we have neither. We did have a Open Range 427 BHS 2011 model and a 2009 GMC 3500 dually.Any suggestions will be appreciated! We want to make the right choice and most of all be safe and LEGAL !!lol

I tow my 385 with a 2011 Ford F-350 6.7 duallie. No problems at all. Did see that the 2015 F-450 can tow over 33,000 lbs now.

    I have a 2015 Ford F450 towing a Heartland 3110. The F450 is an awesome rig.

I tried to look up the specs for your truck, based on it being a dually crewcab, 4042 max load cap, which doesn't give you much room when the 385 has a 3600 avg pin weight. The max tow rating was 23500, which you should be ok on but the pin weight I think is what will limit you on your GMC.

With a GVW of 19,400#, you could easily hit 4,000# of pin weight. I do 99% of my towing in the mountains of SC, NC, TN, VA and WV. Some 7% grades on some of the Interstates and some much h steeper on the mountainous secondary roads that can be quiet curvy. The Ram in my Sig has the Cummins with Aisin tranny, a medium duty tranny. Truck has a GVWR of 14,000# ,with RAWR of 9,750#. GCWR with 4:10 is 37,500#. You could easily handle a pin weight of 4,000#and you'll come nowhere near trucks GCWR.

My 5er is loaded to 16,200# with a pinweight of 3460#, and I'm still under my trucks GVWR and well under its RAWR. Almost 25,000 miles on it and just had windshield washer motor replaced..truck tows my 5er very easily all through the mountains.

Don't know GCWR and GCWR on an '09 GM/ Chevy 3500 dually, but it's for sure the D/A would have no problems towing that weight.

Don't necessarily need a 450, My truck, a 3500 dually with 4:10 will easily handle OPs 5er..My truck is also my daily driver.

Buy a new F350 and you won't have to worry about weights.

Same can be said for a new Ram, Heck, my 13, @14,000# GVWR and a GCWR of 37,500# can handle some pretty heavy 5ers.
  • I have a Momentum 385TH and tow it with a 2012 F350 with 3.73 rear end. It has no problem towing it and the Momentum is not even close to the heaviest thing I've towed with it. Any newer DRW truck should not have a problem towing it. Although I have heard a few complaints about the newer Ram being two high in the back for some fifthwheels.

I had no issues with my Rams back end being too high, but not that big of a deal to make it work...I too could tow far heavier than what I do now, at a little over 26,000# GCW, I could go another 10,000# and still be under my trucks GCWR.
