You store the stock data, enter the new data then, if you need to go in for service, you swap the performance data with the stock. Same if you have emissions testing. Stuff like a cat-back exhaust should be no problem at all.

I have been told by a mechanic I trust that on the 2011 and newer trucks the dealers can tell if you reprogram and then program the factory settings again before taking into the dealership. He said it's a sure way to void your warranty.

Sell it and buy a diesel. I did and don't regret it for a moment after making my first diesel tow this week. I had a 2009 GMC 2500 6.0 gasser and researched changing rear gears. I had two dealers tell me the only way to do it properly was to have the tranny re-programmed but would not do it or recommend anyone who could. I traded it last October for a 2013 2500 with a Duramax and love it.

I see you have a 24' 5er and a 18' Ranger.

I towed double for over 8 years with a '90 chevy 2500 350 5.7 TB engine with a whoppin' 205 hp/300 torque 4L60 tranny and 4.10 gears.
Boat was a 3400 lb 18' Asto with a GT150.
5er was a 26' 7600 GVWR Aljo.

We pulled all over OK/AR/MO/TX/KS and parts of NM/CO. That was back when the speed limit was 55 and most folks didn't run much faster.

Your 6.0 has gobs more hp/torque so IMO you shouldn't have any issues unless your trying to keep up with the flow.
My advise is keep it slow

Best thing to do with the gasser is to make use of the 6 speed manual transmission and be sure to use the tow/haul.
As for the stopping ability that OL Bombero spoke of is simply a matter of anticipating a greater distance to stop and allow the extra space to stop going over the top of the grade a littler slower to descend it. Emergency stops arise a lot so you still have to be ready for those towing or not and you adjust to that when just driving and no r.v., right? His assertion that the plus side of double towing in MN. is that it is flat anyway. North eastern Iowa and into WI., there are some good hills. Not mountain by no means but some steeper long grades. I travel those with no problem and maintain 55mph and drop to maybe 45 mph going up some of the hill. I do have the power to go over them at 55 or 60 if I wanted to put the gas to it before the approach to the hill. But yes, Iowa is basically flat also, but I can do about all of the Midwest and have no concerns about power. The double tow is your choice. How much it weighs and how much more power you will need to tow it is up to you. Staying with in the law of course!
