Towing at 75mph

YES most trailer tires are rated for 65mph max. Some have 75 mph rating. You can check what your tires are rated for......look on sidewall for info.

I don't care IF posted speed limit is 75 mph (or 80).......that is the MAX Speed LIMIT. Minimum on most Interstates is 45 mph.

My trailer tires are rated for 75 mph BUT I tow at 62-65 mph when using an Interstate. And others can use the left lane(s) and pass me ALL day long.
I'm not out there to speed along towing 14K (22k Combined), getting worst mpg, turning trip into a white knuckler just because.......(I got over that after high school).

I do not change the setting on my brake controller. It is setup to stop trailer, activates in conjunction with truck braking so that they stop as a combo.

Don't know what truck you have.....what engine braking or tranny set up.
I have an exhaust brake that is used on all downhill grades PLUS tranny downshifts on deceleration/braking in Tow/Haul Mode.

And if I need to slow I 'stab' brakes firmly to scrub off 10 mph and then get off brakes so they don't overheat.
If I find I have to do that frequently then I downshift.

Drive consistently at a speed too much for your tires, and you have a potential disaster. We see people towing at 75 but we never do it. As for trucks passing you, that's life in the RV lane. It's not a race. :) Just my 2 cents.

We pulled ours 6 hrs. down I-80 in Nebraska last summer had a blow out got 8 mpg and freaked the wife out the whole trip. On the way back we hit the hwy Way next to I-80 at about 60 stopped in little towns so she could shop and get some ice cream cost 2 extra hours but got 13 mpg and enjoyed the drive.

I wouldn't push it much over 65 mph as those cheap Chinese (check your sidewall) ST tires will go bang, even when new, even when used only as a spare.

If the speed limit is 75, then you can "push it" to around 85. Only a few truck will pass you. Of course, cars and pickups not towing will be doing 85 to 90.

I used to drive at those speeds, back in the day. Let I got smart. I found the time I was savings driving at those speeds, I spent re-fueling my car. It certainly helped my stay awake, watching for 'smokie" and the morons that drove just like I was driving.

You towing a house behind you. One hiccup and you'll have nothing be a bunch of debris spread out for 100's of feet.

Have you ever hear or read about what happened when blowout occurred at those speed and towing trailer?:E

Do yourself and us all a favor and drive sane and safe. Remember, your not driving a fire truck to a fire or an ambulance to the scene of a crash!

Does not seem that the engine brake on the truck does much with the 25000 lbs (16+ for the RV and 9 for the truck)

I'm pretty sure that you're just laying out some bait here to see if there are any takers. I'm surprised that some of the elders took the bait. Regardless, my bride and I are returning to Canada and may be on some of the same roads as you. Please post a daily itinerary of your travel plans so that I can avoid any roads that you may me on.

Are the "techs" that told you that you could drive 75 mph going to come out and fix your flat tire? Are the "Techs" going to come out and tow your trailer to a shop to get it repaired after you loose control or hit some else?

IMHO, driving 75 MPH is nuts:):):) never mind being unsafe for your family, RV and other RVers:)

Leaving in 2 weeks I-70 Denver to Moab (That would be westbound until UT 191 then south bound)

Speed limit in CO while towing is 75 mph. Wow!
In CA it is 55 mph.

A lot of the big trucking companies govern their vehicles to 55 to 65. I drive my 60MPH and let people pass me.
