rhagfo ans Walaby you both make good points.
I think the confusion comes when rookies and newbies come to the forum looking for advice.
The best advice you can give a total rookie is different from what someone with experience may need.
When I decided to get a 5'er I went with a dually because:
1. My focus was solely on getting the ultimate tow vehicle..
2. I wanted to purchase a large fiver without a lot of limitations in terms of size.
3. I did not want to upgrade my truck later. I keep my trucks a long time buying
2-3 years down the road was not an option.
That said if you have some experience you can get by with a SRW truck. The key is to KNOW you camping style and understand the towing parameters as well as the limitations of the SRW trucks
If the driver understands that a SRW truck will never be a dually and adjust accordingly everything will be fine.
When the driver thinks their SRW is a dually things go south.
