Wanting to upgrade to a larger fifth wheel and have some questions. I have a new 2014 f-250 super duty diesel. Looking at a Columbus 320 with a dry weight of 10,604 lbs and a hitch weight of 2015 lbs. Also looking at a Cardinal 3030 with a dry weight of 11,374 lbs and a hitch weight of 2550 lbs. Will I have any towing concerns with either of these units or any other problems with either one of these. Right now we tow a 30 ft Flagstaff at about 8,500 lbs.
You should have went with an F350. If you like those two fivers, you can make your F250 work. But you're going to have to spend some money to do it. At a minimum you are going to need air bags to level the load. The new F250 are notorious for have soft first stage to the springs, which means they sag. Bags will level them out. Next take a look at your tires. You need to make sure you have enough weight rating on the tires. If you have the 17" wheels, probably need to go up to the 18". Your axles are fine. Ford uses the same axles as on their F350, and underrates the GAWR and downsizes the tires on the F250.
Don't worry about the so-called experts here. They will just cost you a lot of money swapping trucks, and scaring you with rating limitations. Folks are doing this safely every day. You can make it work too.
