A SRW 350 has a pay load 1000# higher than a 250 with the same axle, wheels and tires, not to mention the same frame engine and transmission. The difference between the trucks is a spring and block. I understand that air bags will not actually change the gvwr, but they will in effect remove weight from the springs and should therefore allow me to safely carry a payload more in line with the rating for a SRW 1 ton correct?
That was my thought process...I have a little more trailer than what you have and an F250. I added bags, and a higher rated tire. I feel comfortable towing what I have. I am still under the GCVWR for the rig.
Your correct.
Looking at Ford body advisory spec sheets shows the F250 has a 10000 lb GVWR with a 6100 RAWR.
The F350 SRW has 11 or so GVWR packages ranging from 10000 to 11500 lbs with three different RAWR packages from 6390/6730 and 7000 lbs with 17"/18" and 20" LT E tires and wheels.
The F250 has the same frame/brake specs/front axle specs/rear axle/etc with 17" tires/wheels and a 6100 lb rear spring pack.
Add the higher rated 3535 lb wheels and 18" or 20" LT E tires and suspension help has the F250 with the same load carrying ability as the F350 SRW truck.
A single gross weight doesn't help much unless your buying gross weight for registration purposes. Most important is knowing your trucks unladin rear axle weight as it carries all the pin weight. Your trucks front axle changes little if any on a short bed truck with the hitch zero over the rear axles.
Your gonna' have a truck at max load carrying ability and probably over the 17" tire/wheel and 6100 lb spring pack. Your call there.
