Great responses. I'm very accustomed to a manual. My daily driver Saab is a manual, my Samurai is a manual. The F250 7.3 I just sold was a 5sp. I have read a decent amount of "$5000 burnt automatic replacement" stories.
I know I have to have the 7.3L Diesel and after checking Ebay, there are not many out there with manuals. I would have to travel to get one.
Are the automatics that came on the early 2000s 7.3L very good. I think they had E4OD or 4R700. There are likely to be grades and will be pulling a decent amount of weight. This would be about the newest PSD I could afford anyway. Being a former towtruck operator the Ford chassis and 7.3 have my deepest respect but never done an auto.
SD allows towing a dingy behind a 5er but I have to try it and be convinced its reasonably safe or I will just throw my Samurai in storage for if/when I ever settle someplace in the US.
How many miles are you folks getting out of this era 7.3 Auto trans? Most of the ones I see look pretty nice but usually around 200,000 miles.
Thanks!
