Toy Hauler for Hunting/Camping

Hi Everyone.

Thinking of purchasing a Toy Hauler in the next while for hunting/camping.

We are thinking of going with a pull style trailer as the truck has a big lift on it and would probably not be able to get a 5th wheel style.

That said here are a few questions for the experts:

1) How well do the toy haulers do on gravel roads...I'm not talking 100km/h...slower speeds up to 100km into bush all gravel road maybe 5 times a year.

2) Do the newer 2014+ campers fit a Ranger 900X utv into the back garage (was thinking of a 10 foot garage...dont want the utv in the living area).

3) How well do the TH pull empty...

4) I realize that the next question is somewhat a matter of opinion...but what make do you guys suggest and what to stay clear off...ex: aluminum frame.....

Thank you in advance.

I off road mine all the time gravel, mud, bushwhacking, whoops and so on.

    3) How well do the TH pull empty.

    Mine pulls just fine empty.
  • Towability off-road will depend on make. Look for adequate clearance between the axles and frame.

My Weekend Warrior was 41' and 11,000 pounds empty. It towed great on gravel. It was a triple-axle which probably helped smooth the ride. I towed many miles on washboarded gravel roads at near-highway speeds.

Mine towed great empty, except it had a super-high tongue weight. Some of the larger toy haulers could overload the rear tires on your truck because of this.

Must haves for me: Fiberglass front cap.... Anything else gets ripped up by the gravel. Diamond-plate might be ok too.

I will never buy another aluminum-sided trailer. Tree branches dent it up really easy, and I have had a couple holes poked from sharp branches.

Be sure the trailers you are looking at have fully enclosed and heated tanks. Really, for remote boon docking i highly recommend Dessert Fox. They are built-well, designed for off-road travel, and are well insulated.

    Don't know.

    Probably

I'd look at Arctic Fox and go down from there.

    Thank you in advance.

What little offroad I've taken mine on, it does great. It actually rides very smooth even without 'toys'. I managed to not dump anything in the trailer cabinets/fridge. I once pulled it 350mi and the tv remote stayed on an 8"x24" shelf and never slid off.

Pulls great, better than loaded because of the increased tongue weight when empty.
My fresh is directly above the axles, black is forward, and gray is more forward. Works out great for me.

I like a steel frame because I can weld whatever/whenever I want; not that I have done anything special to this trailer though.
Think about sleeping count with the toys loaded vs unloaded; do you want to be able to use the trailer with the SxS still in the trailer for any reason?
Look at water capacities, aux fuel tank if desired, generator if desired, shower height if you are tall.
Do you need an enclosed belly, ducted heat or tank heaters for sub freezing temp use?

    Thank you in advance.

They tow just fine on gravel roads. Tow mine 60 miles round trip to my favorite camping spot on gravel at road speed from 10 to 40 mph.

Take a tape measure when looking at trailers to figure this out. Most probably will but it's best to check.

Mine pulls just fine but then again I don't pull with a jacked up truck so your milage may vary on this as your suspension is already compromised to start with.

Your best bet here is to find the ones that will fit your UTV plus be tall enough to work with your jacked truck without needing 5 foot of drop at the draw bar.

    Thank you in advance.
