We are having the 5th wheel or Toy hauler dilemma. We want it for our dogs so we have some where to put them after swimming until they are dry, etc but once we started thinking about it I don't think it will work out that way. We live in Florida. Hot most of year. If we have patio door down using it as a porch then need to keep dogs in that area when we leave the camper we won't be able to utilize that area because it will be hot from ramp door being open. The concept of them is appealing just not sure it will work out that way with us living in blistering hot Florida. Do the garages stay as cool as rest of unit? Any thoughts or tips would be GREATLY appreciated. We are so confused :?

not quite sure why you say 5th wheel or toy hauler. Our 5th wheel is a Toy Hauler with AC vented into the rear. We do have a back porch with screened railing around it. Now your concerns about the rear cooling I suppose it depends on how many AC units you have. We have two units and it takes the rear bay a little longer to cool if the door has been left open for a period. There are remedies you can think about. A third AC unit on the back which would be dedicated to the rear bay area or a fan to draw in the AC from the main part of the house unit the bay cools off.. All in all the rear cools to me but not as good as the rest of the house since the Bedroom has its own AC and the mail living area has its own AC. The bay only has 2 AC vents opposed to the main area has 4.

Maybe close up the ramp/patio a little bit before you plan to leave to let it start cooling? A/C is ducted into the garage area on mine, seems to cool as good as the rest of the camper. Haven't had it in FL type heat yet though, so time will tell.

We regret not going to a toyhauler sooner LOL right now I would never go back to a "regular 5th wheel" We haul our toys but it is great for the dogs. Gives an extra private room for when the "grown" kids are along too

Well, worse yet, Swivel Wheel won't sell one of their units to someone with a 5ver anymore so the point is mute. Class A or C only...

I don't want this to turn into a "what is triple tow" thread, but your statement above is not true in all states. That is why the manufacturer(s) have statements on their websites that buyers need to check their own state laws. Good luck getting an official statement from an authority that speaks for the state.

It's not because it has one wheel that it isn't considered triple tow. Swivel Wheel actually makes one that has two wheels as well for more stability and weight handling. The reason it isn't triple tow is because there isn't a second pivot point. In other words, the swivel wheel platform can't pivot side to side behind the trailer. As for triple axles, we too didn't want them. What I would like is if more companies used double dualie axles instead of triples. Best of both worlds, but not as cost effective to manufacturers trying to save every last buck.

NO WAY - when we do look at regular 5th wheels we marvel at the spacious living area, but the dogs do great in the "garage" and we do fine in our area with a comfy full recliner couch. With just the two of us, we don't need more room and love using our porch when we have a great view. The garage has a dedicated A/C and our dogs have plenty of room. We don't have a problem with the heat like Florida, but there is no reason, even though the garage is not as well insulated as the rest of the RV, the a/c couldn't keep it plenty cool.

Would likely depend on the manufacturer. Some units are not designed to handle the additional weight. Others are designed and able to handle the weight. Some even come with a receiver hitch built in/installed.
