You cant be picky when using a half ton. im in the same boat. I got a ram 1500 . When i hear half ton towable now, I raise my eyebrows. All that stuff is just sales slogans. And dont let a dealer tell you how much you can tow. Ask the folks on here. I made that mistake. Im looking at trading my truck in cause of this same scenario. How long of one can you get by with? The shorter the better. I wouldnt touch that MXT303 trailer! My payload is only around 1400 (which is probably around what yours is). That MXT303 trailer is almost 1000 dry hitch weight , so they havent added the battery or lp tanks yet. Now add your supplies and everybodys body weight and voila.... youre way over . Thats the problem with the toy haulers for half tons, not the towing capacity. Check the payload on your truck. Try to get as light of a tongue weight as you can. If you do stay with your half ton, beef up the suspension and add airbags. You might want to get some good tires too. Choices are so damn limited. One thing that will always help is to add weight to the back to relieve tongue weight. I think something around 600 pounds would be much better but its hard to find in the lengths you and i want(which are the same). I would love to be able to throw a quad or bike in my bed with firewood and still pull the toy hauler with a half ton. Maybe one of these years youll be able to. If i said something wrong, someone here please correct me. I would love to get either the keystone carbon 27ft, the funfinder youre looking at, or one of the hyperlites. But, I dont think I will be safe. Here are some You might want to look at, but ALL the hitch weights scare me:
Lance 2212 /2612
24HFS - XLR Hyper Lite
VRV quicksilver (ugly interior in my opinion)
keystone carbon (various models)
Good luck and let us know what u decide cause i think a lot of people are in this situation.
