I had similiar problem and until I put a signal extender on my 30 foot trailer it did not work and was not the tire monitors. now it picks up over 200 feet away when car and trailer are separated.
have you tried setting the receiver right next to the tire and see if it picks up the signal. now all is good and collects the data pretty fast and stays connected. didn't want to spend the money for the extender but all is good now when we pull the 5er trailer. the TST monitor was responsible for helping me find a leaky trailer tire that turned out to be a small leak in a weld on the rim when tested in a submersible tank.
