Trail Air Pin Box - needs air each trip
How "normal" is it that I have to put air into my Trail Air pin box on each departure (every 1-3 weeks)?

No you have a small leak.
Check the valve stem! Spray the air chamber.
If yours has two chambers check the connections on the tube between them.
