TrailAir Kingpin question

ooh, I forgot to mention, when qw first got our 5er, I called the mfg and sent them pics of our trailair setup...

they suggested I had a bad shock and sent me another free of charge...
10 minutes and the new shock was on and seemed to help...

My sticker is slightly above the bottom cap weld on the shock.

It is a little wierd yours only drops to the level of the arrows when unloaded. Mine drops much further, which would put the top of the arrows somewhere in the middle of the travel range. I have the Tri-Glide but it shouldn't make any difference.

Do you think they got the sticker on too high?

The pin box is 21k rated. The trailer is about 12k (add another 5k for the boat).

I did add the air when the trailer was hitched up, and on a level surface (in my garage). I let some air out of it today, but it still leans toward the rear.

I'll be sure to allow for some extra time before we head out this weekend.

I also wanted the Tri Glide, but it was not available for my trailer either. I worked directly with Ultra Fab (who makes the TrailAir), and ordered through eTrailer. If they had a TriGlide for my trailer (Venture Tech frame) I would have ordered that.

Mine is the 21K model, I have 4,500# pin weight I run at the top of the arrow and it floats along very nicely.

The air pressure does change depending on your altitude.

I start out with extra air then move to a level area then let air out until the arrows align with the top sleeve.

Someone telling you the TriGlide is not available for your unit is full of it!

Agreed that it compresses, but at rest my bottom plate is basically level...

I think I know why - the mounting holes on the 5er may be different than yours...
my 5er 'receiver' has say 5 holes running vertical in the front and 5 more toward the back...
my trailar is not in the same 'height' holes - the front is in hole 3 from the bottom and the rear is in hole 2, thus pointing my hitch upwards so the bottom plate is level and easier to hitch...

Ah - also noticed the OP has a 21,000 lb trailair! mine's 'only' 18k :)

I'm trying to plan a summer trip to cooler climes than north Texas, maybe I can use the hitch as my excuse to run to Colorado :) :) :)

With no weight on the pin, the plate hangs down to its furthest travel limit. When you hook up, the pin rides up the hitch plate and compresses the air bladder while leveling out. I've found my "best ride" to be about 1/4" below the arrow's tip, however, 1/2" to right on the tip is satisfactory and as long as I'm in that range, I don't make any adjustments to it. Never measure the psi of the air in the bladder, I just go by the arrow position (that's what it is there for) as everyone's pin weight is going to be different and that affects the psi in the bladder needed to keep the unit in the middle of its travel range (the tip of the arrow). I suspect 90-100 psi in mine, with a pin weight under 1800 lbs. would put the arrow about 1 1/2" below the shield and it would ride like a solid attachment as opposed to "floating air support".
