Trailer brakes
I towed my trailer to the dealer for repairs and forgot to hook up the battery. The trailer brakes worked. So does that mean you don't need the battery for the brakes and lights to work ?

Exactly. The battery is used by the brakes only if if it becomes disconnected from the TV. This via the breakaway sw. The trailer lights and the brakes work thru the truck lights and the brake controller thru the cord.
