Trailer brakes
I towed my trailer to the dealer for repairs and forgot to hook up the battery. The trailer brakes worked. So does that mean you don't need the battery for the brakes and lights to work ?

If the trailer's umbilical isn't connected to the truck, the trailer brakes won't work regardless of the trailer batteries' state of charge - the trailer batteries only get involved in case the breakaway switch is triggered.
