The real problem is in those ratings.....no one really knows what a truck can tow of any trim because there's really been no true measures done on them. ...
You must have not compared these new trucks to the older 3/4 tons. Yes, they are lighter but these days you do not need to be overbuilt it to make them strong...it is called engineering. These new ones have horsepower and torque matching even some of the diesels of just 10-15 years ago and the transmissions are lightyears ahead of the older ones. Bigger disc brakes all way around with independant braking. They have sway control, traction control, electronic locker rearends, hydroformed frames and tuned suspensions to make them haul the rated loads. Remember if the manufacturer rates them, they have to warranty them too!
