I am sure you have an engineering degree from the University of Cracker Jacks by some of your comments. Believe it or not, the auto companies hire engineers that did go to school and receive an engineering degree. These engineers set the limits for the trucks based on engineering design and they do use safety factors in the design of the components.
Yes, the 1/2 ton trucks of today are more capable than the older trucks, but they still have their limits
I will go with the engineers and their design over someone that feels the ratings are not significant.
