Tri-axle tire drag photos

A number of people have asked about tire drag on tri-axle 5th wheels. I had to move my rig today to clean it to get ready for the season and I thought I'd post the photos of the skid marks on the pavement. The sideways scuffs on the tires are on the outside of the front left tire and inside of the front right tire. There are no scuffs on the middle or rear tires.

It was a right angle turn but not particularly tight.

I do the same thing. I use all of the road when on pavement. Off road, no problem.
  • Just rotate tires regularly, and they'll wear pretty even in the end. My Weekend Warrior had a 28' wheelbase, so while doing a U-turn at full lock, it would make the trailer pivot in place!
  • When turning tight at my shop or home, I'll hose down the area with water to help with tire wear.

I have a customer with a 10'spread axle......I can't bear to see the scrubbing and flexing while backing into the shop!

  • My fiver leaves marks on the ground as well. That is typical for a tri-axle.
