I was wondering if those of you that use a tripod on the 5th wheel hitch to steady the camper what you think of them, does it work, is it worth the cost?
We had a lot of movement in ours we so we bought one and tried it. It takes some of the movement out you need to re tighten it after it settles. The first time I saw someone using one I asked him how well it worked he said not that great his was really light duty and he wished he would of bought a heavy duty one. Ours is heavy duty so you can torque it down tight I think it's worth using for us.
Just my own take on this, and I have used one. On a shorter lighter trailer say 32 feet and under 10k lbs I have seen them make a difference. It did on my Laredo 29RL. On our 38 ft Montana at 13k lbs it did nothing. After reading about these for several years here that seems to be true MOST of the time. Always exceptions.
I had over 8 people in my front living room in Daytona speedway last year. Got a little worried the legs my collapse so went out and got one just in case. Not to offen we would have that many people in the trailer, but met up with a bunch of the officals and they were a little thirsty
We had a fifth wheel for a long time. I used the heavy tripod and it did make a difference in movement. I had plenty of room to haul it and that would be the only consideration I would entertain.
We have one on our 43' 5th wheel. Where it makes a difference for us is when we run the washing machine. The spin cycle runs at something north of warp factor 8, and the tripod does dampen the vibration.
Had one on my 2004 and it helped a "little" but on my 2012 and 2015 with the Mor-Ryde pin Box they are worthless as the pin Box moves fore and aft etc.. and I have 6 point auto level on top of that, Lucky I sold it for 20 bucks at a garage sale and glad to be rid of it
I've used the same bi-pod pin stabilizer on all three of our 5th wheel trailers since the early '80s. This takes care of side to side movement at the front of the trailer. Now common sense tells most folk the back of the trailer needs some thing else. My BAL telescoping stabilizer eliminates side to side back there.
And of course fore and aft movement is taken care of by my adjustable chocks. I'm rock solid.
