Did you have cruise control engaged ?
It's possible it could cause a problem if the rear wheels break loose even just a little bit on ice, or in freezing rain.
Even with the weight of a fiver over the rear wheels, I can see a Perfect Storm scenario where you enter a curve, the rear wheels break loose on a patch of ice, and instantly start spinning (because of cruise control), and then the fiver gives a little push into a jack knife situation. All this in the blink of an eye.
I'm not going to beat you up about your speed, but I will point out that if you're running at 55 in weather vs 65, you may have an extra 1/2 second to make an attempt at saving it.
