Well heres my two pennies on 4wd. Ive owned many, IH Scouts, Jeeps, and F150s. None of them had any damage while driving on dry pavement at moderate speeds. After a rockcrawling incident, i had to drive 80 miles home in 4wd in my 97 Jeep.
Now, with that in mind, you needs to slow down when its foul weather. I am a truck driver and i slow down when i cant see any spray coming off my trailer tires and the road appears wet. Dont wait till its ice on your mirrors because that is coming from the spray from the car in front of you in most cases. No spray, no traction.
Back to 4wd. You have to decided what your 5ver is worth compared to your transfer case if you dont want to slow down. Of you really need to tow a 5th wheel at 65mph in icing conditions, put that puppy in 4wd, your gonna tear something up anyway. Slow down!
