Harry and Thea, well unless that 2009 Chevy was a stripper model, it should have had an outside temp sensor. That as mentioned by others earlier in this thread!! I can't believe that your 09 didn't have one, you mentioned that the temp was -14C, ice forms at 0C, what would make you think there wouldn't be ICE?
I mentioned earlier that we drove home from the coast, after waiting for temps in the coast range pass to warm. During that drive I was watching the temp sensor, and tire spray of the cars in front of me.
ICE is not to be messed with!! I will tow all day in fresh snow, but will park for ice, or stay put!!
This is fine, if near or below freezing, and the road looks wet be VERY Careful, but then again the cow has left the barn.

This tow was 5 years ago coming home from the coast drove 45 through the coast range, 4X4 most of the way.
