We live in Northern Ohio and we know black ice. It comes out of nowhere and the road can be clear except for a small area of black ice. It is the absolute worst thing to encounter once your rig car, truck breaks loose on that stuff it is like being on a ice skating rink. I hit a patch of black ice that was only maybe 100 feet long in a big ole school bus and I was just a passenger. The road was wet everywhere else except that small stretch that was in the shade of a small hill. My speed was about 20 MPH. There was nothing you could have done once that black ice got you. Glad you were able to ride it out uninjured.
4WD works fine in snow the deeper the better but is useless on ice.
