It all depends on the total weight and loaded pin weight of the 5er and the tow rating and payload rating of the truck. Payload ratings of pickups have increased a lot over the years. And an SRW can adequately and safely tow a large 5er. But at some point the pin weight will dictate a DRW. Do your homework and check trailer and truck numbers carefully. An SRW tows a 5er very well and stable if the numbers are right. But a DRW is needed if the weight gets too heavy.
