Truck stop fueling

I'm a new owner of a diesel pickup. I checked out the pumps where the semi's fuel up and discovered there is no slot to use a credit card. Do I pay inside before I fuel? Not sure what the procedure is.

  • When I use the truck pumps I use my 5% cash back AmEx card. And the walk inside is just a break.

As mentioned RV lanes are a option at some stations. But some RVers are idiots and will tie up the pump because it's all about "me".
  • A hose on each side with one meter on the left side. OTR trucks tend to have 2 tanks and need to be filled from each side. Common credit cards cannot be used but fleet cards can be used with some exceptions.

Good Sam has a charge card that works at most Pilot/FJ stations and a second one that will start the pump and you pay inside. Otherwise you go inside, leave your CC, pump, pull up and go back inside to pay.

Also truck pumps have a larger diameter nozzle for faster fills and many cars and PUs can't fill up.
  • Some are pay at the pump, some aren't. Some have RV lanes for us. I don't mess with that anymore since I put an extra fuel tank in my bed. I have enough for fuel for the days driving, actually a few days driving. Now when I need fuel I leave the trailer at camp and go to any convenient, low priced station I want. No more having to fill with the condo in tow.

Look on the other side of the truck. It is just possible, you were on the satellite side where there is no card reader. Truck fuel lanes have 2 hoses, one each side. So the drivers can fuel both tanks at once
