Thanks for the input.
Yea, the 5th wheels is a foot taller than the TTs we're looking at but I don't think a foot will be too much worse. Though the TTs are a foot longer overall (which would be even more behind the truck when towing).
The larger tank on the one 5er and both TTs is definitely an attraction. Looks like they try and keep the weight down on the Jayco HT by keeping the smaller fw tank which would be the same as our previous TT. Prior TT had 50 gal and we could make it last 7 days usually. So we'd typically have to haul water at least once. Even with the larger tank we probably still would have to on our 12-14 day trips.
The larger grey tanks on the 5ers are the bigger attraction to me. Previous TT and the ones I'm considering only had/have 40 while the 5ers have 65. To me it's easier hauling fresh as I can do that easier/closer than getting rid of grey.
Truthfully, I don't see the added storage in the 5er basement vs the TTs. Looks to be almost as much on the passthrough on the TTs we're looking at. Losing the bed with a 5er does concern me. Wouldn't be able to put much back there with a 5er as our Ram is a 6.5.
Oilslick, do you really think there would be an issue with a "half ton" towable 5er with the 2500 CTD? Both of the 5ers listed have a GVWR of just under 10k.
I never pull any distance with full water. Always fill up near where I'm camping. The actual weight of the Jayco 27.5HT is 7725 vs the listed 7205 dry weight. I never had over 2k of additional "stuff" in my previous TT, so I don't see us coming close to the GVWR of the 5er.
One of the TTs actually has a higher GVWR.
The side to side limitation mentioned worries me a little bit as there is some rougher areas we go into.
Added the Snow river 288BHS TT to the list of choices now. lol
Any comments on the quality of the Jayco 5ers or the TTs mentioned?
