For those of you that went from a TT to a 5th wheel, are you pleased with the change and why.

    Same here except no basement.
  • I have had several new RV's and went from a TT to a 5th wheel (kept the 5er) back to a TT. The smaller TT will go a lot of places the 5th wheel would not.

It depends on how you intend to use it for what works best for you.

I never had a TT, but I've towed enough trailers that, after we got a GN, and I towed it a few times, I knew I'd never consider a TT. This was before I knew squat about RVing. All the pluses, besides the ease of towing, were bonuses.

Only TT I towed was either a 2 horse trailer, and BIL's 20' TT with a F250. No issues with either, but knew I didn't want the pivot point 3' behind the axle! Love the way our 5er tows.
  • The big reason we made the change to a fifth wheel was the added storage space under the unit and inside.
  • Just made the switch ourselves. We're exceptionally happy with it, for all the reasons brirene mentioned. Tows easier. I can hook/unhook by myself. No heavy weight distribution hitch to lift in the truck bed when we're done. More storage room. More room inside.

The one downside is more due to size than type. We went a fair amount bigger. That crosses a lot of Forest Service and State Park camp sites off our list, due to length. A smaller fiver would have helped with that, but the DW wanted the room. We'll go smaller someday once the kids have moved out of the nest.
  • Not a one regret.

Only thing I have found more challenging is adjusting to the added height.

  • When we went full time the fiver was great. More room, easy hooking up and unhooking, plenty of storage, my wife loved the separated bedroom as she goes to bed earlier than I do and gets up later than I do. However, when we got off the road, the fiver was too big, difficult to get into older campgrounds, had to worry about height, had to find the right service stations to get into. Love the smaller trailer now with much less hassles. So it all depends on what you want and why you want it.
