Underbelly Blew Out

We're about 20 miles outside of town heading for home, when the whole underbelly and insulation blew out. Took out bathroom valve cable. Brought back to the RV Superstore so they can restrap tanks and replace valve. They'll also strap water and electrical lines so we can get on down the road.
Also have calls in to Lippert and Forrest River regarding the continuing saga of the loosening lug nuts.
  • Yeah, I'd make sure the lug nuts end radius matched the radius on the wheels. Sounds like you have mismatched lugs and wheels. They never will stay tight and now that they've been made to try and fit, it's possible that the wheels mating surface will be ruined and not match up with the correct lug nuts.

Surely these aren't the lug nuts that came on the trailer new?
  • Lug nuts...loctite...still loosening :H

Them ain't the right lug nuts......wrong size, wrong pitch

I would replace ALL wheel studs with new correct lug nuts and be done with it.

    How is your underbelly attached?
Mine is in sections with self-tapping screws every 6"
  • Sure glad I wasn't following you :B
Mine is in sections, couldn't see the entire thing coming off under normal conditions.

Oh no not the loctite again :W
  • Not aware of any leaks. There were 3 panels, 2 are now gone. Thinking they were secure, but apparently not. Wind got in there and ripped them out.
Loose lug nuts have been an ongoing problem. Had new lug nuts put on and used some loctite. Torqued to spec and some are still loosening a bit.
    Can't figure it out.
  • Did all the covering on the underbelly blow off (it's in section's isn't it?). Sounds like you had a leak somewhere and everything was saturated, but again, don't believe we have enough info to figure exactly what happened.....
  • What do you mean by 'whole underbelly & insulation blew out'?

    Was it WET?

    Re-strap tanks?

    Loosening lug nut?.........alloy wheels?
