The 18K Companion was an excellent choice at the time it was designed to be used with the trucks at the time it was designed. But the fact is the beds became MUCH weaker and the portion on the base that rode on the high rails of the bed corrugation in later truck models like my 2011 RAM rode above the valley of the corrugation. So based on trucks changing B&W re designed the Companion base and now is 20K rated. I would use both hitches without concern in the trucks they were designed for.
Best part is we now have the ultimate B&W hitch that attaches to the large puck pattern in the rAM so we can have a real 25K rated 5er hitch.
The problem with my 18K Companion was NOT a design flaw!
The Andersen was simply not designed strong enough to do what they claimed it could do.
