I would trust your hitch any day over the Ultimate.
Andersen claims to have sold over 18,000 Ultimate Hitch units in the approximate 5 year existence of the product without "failure" and only a few minor issues. If this success rate cannot inspire confidence in a product, then nothing can.
By comparison, I wonder how many B & W Companions (that attach to the turnover ball hitch) have been sold, and what their success rate is. Have they had any failures or replaced units? Perhaps their statistics are substantially better, but until we know...
(And I do believe their hitches and products are absolutely fantastic BTW)
The Andersen UH is rated at 24K GTWR and 4500 pin weight. That's what they have engineered their product to be. Before anyone makes any counter-claim to that, just remember that we have nothing to gain by doing so, but they have everything to lose by incorrectly marketing/advertising/engineering their product. It's rated at 24K...like it or not...that's where it rated.
From internet chatter it seems the score is 2-2. There are 2 reports of Andersen Hitches that deformed and were replaced with redesigned parts in the Cummins thread. And in this forum Cummins12V98 reports two B&W's had base deformation resulting in replacement with redesigned parts. Both companies stood behind their respective products and satisfied their customers.
And I agree, they both seem to have a very good product.
