I think some light has finally been shed on why Australia uses tow vehicles with high payload but low horsepower compared with US pickups. Since any trailer over 10000 lbs requires air brakes, virtually all RVs are very lightweight, but with a higher percentage of total weight as pin weight. You don't need 400 hp and 900 ft./lbs of torque to tow such light trailers.
No, still wrong. These seemingly low horsepower diesels can tow adequately.up hills and everywhere , large US 5th wheelers . Three European examples included.

All of the RVs shown in the photos are likely under 10000 lbs. The tractor has no loader or backhoe, again maybe 10000 lbs tops. The sailboat is big, but sailboats are not heavy. The reason that the lower powered trucks tow those loads fine is that they are light. We have lots of Isuzu cabovers around here, and landscapers use them to haul yard waste and tow enclosed trailers. You see them grinding up 5-6% grades at 40 mph.
