Oilslick, I did miss you post and your solution is similar to mine. The design of the old base welcomes the flex in the outter "Wings". You addition of rubber and mine of the flat stock both give support in the right areas.
thomasmnile, I don't doubt you one bit because I have yet to personally see another failure of this type. I have a pretty unique situation..... A pickup that weighs in excess of 10K unloaded, a 5er with the Titanium front cap, a 5er that weighs out at the top of the hitch's rating, tuned to 400+ RWHP while towing, driving off paved surfaces, and wanting to run the rearmost adjustment position if the hitch. All of these create loads far beyond what most of you would consider normal.
I only wish I had the camera to show you guys how scary it was without the cushioning of the Morryde!
I'm the type of guy you want to "Test" your new product before releasing it to the public. Never the less, none of these conditions are exceeding printed ratings of the hitch. The RVK3500 with it's new base addresses many of these issues. The wings are moved inboard, braced, and are supplied with UHMW inserts to reinforce the low bib of the bed. I look forward to testing one of these in the near future. Due to the popularity of the hitch, I will have no problems selling it on craigslist for a fair price.
