I believe there is some misconceptions about the hitch. It attaches just like a gooseneck hitch, in fact it mounts with a gooseneck post which mounts to a frame that attaches to the truck frame under the bed. Basically the post mounts where you would normally mount a gooseneck ball. IMO if the bed is creasing due to the hitch moving around in the bed, then the hitch part mounted to the frame rails, or the frame rails themselves are flexing.
The bed supports the part of the hitch, but the actual pulling forces are through the ball mount.
I have my hitch out a couple times a year, and it's been in there and in use since 2005 and maybe 30,000 miles. There are no creases in the bed, no cracks, no flex markings, nothing that is out of the perfect. I love it and am very, very happy with it. IMO one of the best hitches on the market. I've never heard of a Companion hitch failing.
