Want to buy a new rig but afraid of quality control issues

I honestly think if you let them know up front that you are going to do a thorough PDI and insists on having your own by yourself time to do it makes them do a better job before you get there. I will not sign anything until I do my PDI. I will only take a morning appointment. If your not comfortable doing it find someone who is.

Thanks. I certainly would do a very thorough pdi it’s just the things down the road that might rear their ugly head. I hear a lot of talk about slide issues to name one.
I also made the mistake by going on YouTube and watching the Jayco factory tour video...

You are an experienced RV owner and have several years of RV ownership under your belt. Don't short change yourself and your experiences. Instead of reading about complaints on a forum, you really should go visit the RV dealership and make an informed decision yourself. Considering you have read all the disappointments, you should now have a good check-list of things to look for, that others have had issues with. When looking at your "dream RV" take that knowledge with you and really examine the camper with critical eyes. Then make a judgment call based on your gut feeling.

Considering you currently have a camper, you really do already know what to look for, what will be a problem in the future, and what will be just fine in the long run. Don't underestimate your own experience and knowledge.

You need to go and simply do some window shopping now and asking lots of question to the salesmen and even to some of the mechanics that work there. I think you are able to sift through it yourself. But you need to go and see for yourself. Then you may have questions answered, and possibly, have even more or different questions that need answered.

Everyone's experience with their camper is different. Two identical campers can leave the factory at the same time, and within 6 months one can be a disaster and the other fantastic. A lot depends upon the owner and how he/she maintains it, their own expectations, and how they use it.

Everything eventually returns to dust. (Including every RV ever made). It's just a matter of how much "WE" expedite that process!

9 months after buying our brand new 2018 TT. It would be hard for me to sell or trade it. Zero issues but I maintain it bumper to bumper. I've told my wife we got lucky. A trailer rolling off the same assembly line the next day could have major problems. A TT , fiver, class c or a is not a stick and brick home it's a vehicle. It depreciates and wears out like a car.

I've found that if you buy cheap you get cheap. Most of the important stuff in a trailer is hidden behind the walls and panels. Get to know how they're put together, what materials are used, etc. I've been in lots of trailers and can definitely tell the difference in build quality between trailers. Many are cheaply built and feel flimsy. My advice is to go inside as many trailers as you can stand and get a feel for them. Remember that trailers are built very quickly, the workers are paid by how many units they move down the line, and there is no quality control anywhere to be found. Sorry to sound so negative.

That was a big concern for us as well, especially being long time Jayco fans and their recent buy out. I had a four year old Jay Flight that never had the first issue other than a bad LP regulator.

We just bought a 2018 Talon and so far have been mostly impressed. I think I've got some electrical issues with the 12 volt side but as far as the typical Jayco fit and finish I'd say it's on par. I've always bragged on Jayco's cabinetry but I'd say my new one isn't quite a '10'.

I wouldn't necessarily say "you buy cheap you get cheap". I researched our model a lot since it was new for 18 and found it has most, if not all of the same build specs as the more expensive Seismic model. Same R-vaules, axles, Morryde suspension, etc etc. It's just not as fancy as a lot of other toy haulers but it's also in a much lower price range.

My dealer told me they haven't seen any issues since Thor took over in regards to warranty or quality.

I looked at Jaycos before I bought my current Cedar Creek Hathaway edition. I was did appointed in how they have cheapened the line in recent years. Troublesome Schwintec slides,cheaper and slower, electric levelers instead of hydraulic. I think there are much better products in the same price range.

In 7 years of fulltiming and 3 5er's I have never had a problem with my slides and I have talked to ALOT of folks of all brands and have not heard many complaints about slides,I think the Mfg,s have that down pretty good now

Most likely with hydraulic slides.

The metro Detroit area used to have dozens of RV dealers before the recession. Now there are very few. General RV is by far the biggest, but "in season" it is not unusual to have to wait weeks to get an appointment. And I don't know of any independent places I would go either.

(Camping World in Belleville order and installed the wrong slide out awning/cover. The first time they used it, it pulled out of its mounts. When they took it back, they said, "Why did you buy the wrong awning/cover ?" Pluse, there was a flaw in the material. Not a recommend repair facility.)
