Washer in a 5th wheel Help Needed

We are looking into getting a 5th wheel in July 2017. I want a washer as we will be living in it all summer. I DO NOT want a all in one washer/dryer. Probably will only go with a washer or maybe a stackable washer and dryer. We will be buying new with a mid bunk room. My question: can we add an after market washer if there is a washer dryer prep? If so what is the usual width. The doors look really narrow on campers so I want to make sure it will go through. Do the manufacturers usually add them before the rig is done? I really would rather do it myself to save money. How is the cost for running a dryer which is why I am probably going to line dry as we are trying to save money at all costs? Sure wish they made a gas rv dryer. If you have a washer or washer and dryer in your RV please let me know what model and how you like them also. Thanks in advance.

  • We have the Splendide 2100XC vented washer/dryer combo. If you decide upon the combo system, definitely get the vented unit. The dryer functions like a regular dryer with the vented models.

This unit is sufficient to wash what we use and wear on a daily basis. During travel we routinely put two loads per day in upon landing at our overnight location. The nice thing about the second load (usually towels) is that since it washes and then automatically switches to drying, you set it and you can go to bed, and you have the fresh load of towels in the AM.

So far it has worked well for us, and particularly when traveling and trying to cover distance. It makes us quite self-contained.

Also, our was installed post-sale by the dealer, but the unit had the W/D prep. We bought ours through PPL.
  • We have a Splendide combo and DW really likes it. 10 yrs and never a problem with it. But you said that is not what you want. BUT. Dealer did install it after we bought the 5er. Took it thru the door, up into the bedroom, and into a small closet where the hookups were.
  • Combos work well IF you use them as intended and not like your full sized unit at home.
You will want to install a european sized combo or apartment stacked pair. Both of which are narrow enough to fir through a typical RV entry door. You might have to remove interior doors. I did to get my combo in.
