Water Mayday

I just filled the fresh water tank for our first time on new-to-us 2010 Keystone Alpine. I stood inside, kept testing the water level, it never moved - and then it started to overflow at the outside.

So, I came inside and turned on the pump, and tried to run the water. Nothing came out.

I connected the hose to the "city water" connection, and we have water.
Haven't tried hot water yet, that will be next.

Another forum asked me if I turned on the "fill tank" valve before I filled the tank, but I have no idea if we have one, or where it is.

So - how do I get the water from the fresh water tank to be the water that comes out of the tap?

Is there actually a "fill tank" valve or was someone messing with my head?

I need to sanitize the tank today, because as of tomorrow, the house where the RV is parked will be rented, and they probably won't want us using their bathroom and kitchen as we've been doing while it was empty....

Thank you so much
Michele
  • Basic RV water system.......

Some RVs have a 'water panel' where you turn valves to *provide city water, *fill fresh water tank, *bypass water heater etc.
Some RVs fill fresh water tank via gravity port on side of rig

ALL RV water systems are connected.........city water & on-board pump supply the same hot/cold plumbing.

You stated tank overflowed.....so water got to tank.
Need to check valving arrangement.......if 'fill valve' is OPEN, on-board pump will just round robin from tank thru pump thru fill valve back to tank.

Also need to check valving on water heater tank......
    Top line (hot out) open
    Bottom line (cold in) open
    ANY line connecting hot/cold CLOSED
  • If water overflowed at the outside fill port, then there is probably water in the tank but the monitor panel is not working properly. Did you hear the pump running? If not, then there is another problem with the pump, fuse or wiring. If you did hear the pump running, but no water, then it takes some time for the pump to prime, especially if it hasn't run in a long time, the seals may be dry.
  • I had a problem with my water pump this year. If I turn on the pump accidentally when hooked up to shore water backflow valve stays open and the tank over fills. I usually just need to turn off the shore(land) water and cycle the pump for a while and it flops the back flow valve into the correct position. But this year it did not work. Pump was not pumping. So I disconnected the in and out to the pump to check for blockage(none) and reconnected them. Cycled the pump for a while and Hooray for me. Maybe I had an airlock in the line. Who knows, it worked. So first make sure your pump is on. Do this when shore water is turned OFF.
  • do you have a gravity fill port someplace? my winnie didn't, it had a switch to either use city water or to fill the tank. my bounder had a small valve in one of the lines to let water into the tank.

  • No water fill valve on your coach.

The monitor panel level issue is not related to the water pump not working UNLESS there is a fuse blown and the water pump and monitor oanel power are both on that fuse. I would start with checking your fuse down at the power converter panel.
