Back to the question I posted, I do not recall ever hearing any signs of the truck in regen mode. How can I tell when it is happening, does it make a noise?
There is nothing that tells you that you're in re-gen, you won't "hear" anything, only sign might be the "smell" outside of the truck...the exhaust temps get hotter.....The truck will run a little hotter, (at least it did with the 07.5 Chevy I had as well as the 2010 Dodge I had...."IF" you were to use your information center and had "instant mpg" showing, you would see a drop in mpg until re-gen is done. When I looked at average mpg, I'd see that when I was cruising at 60 mph or so and see the "line" on Average miles per gallon down around 8-9 mpg, I'd know I was in a re-gen.
My 07.5 went through regen, my 2010 Dodge went through re-gen and the 2012 I had went through re-gen...all had DPF (diesel particulate filter). Those that say their truck hasn't went through a re-gen are wrong unless they've deleted that part of the emissions on the truck.
Again, you won't get a message unless your DPF is "full", then you'll be told to run at highway speed for 30-40 mins and it should be ok...I never ever got a message telling me I had a problem with the DPF, and they've been on my trucks since the middle of 07'....BUT, they all have went through re-generations....only way you might know would be to pay attention to aver or instant mpg on information center if you have one in your truck
