Weekend Warrior SL2805 Superlite Issues?

I am looking at a 2008 WW Superlite SL2805 5er at a good price. With all of the issues I am just beginning to read on this forum, I concerned about buying anything from WW.

Is there any issues I should be looking at on this model when I inspect this rig? Most of the things I have read so far have to do with frame issues on the bumper pull models. Are the fifth wheels built any better??

Anyone have this model? what has your experience been with major repairs needed?

I normally would be reading all the posts doing a ton of research, but I have crappy internet here and don't have a lot of time before I need to decide on this trailer. So I am hoping I can shortcut that process by going directly to folks with experience with that or similar models.
  • I'm not aware of any class action regarding my trailer. When I read this forum (before I bought it), WW was the brand everyone liked and bragged about. And about the time they went under, everyone hated them.

There's another poster here that goes by "Macs Dad" that also has one (perhaps 3005). He lives in Cali and WW did some free maintenance related upgrades.

Bear in mind, this in not a luxury trailer. It's comfy for a couple and 2 friends, or a couple of buddies and a couple of motorcycles. But it's got all the basics.

My thinking if the trailer you're looking at seems OK, that whatever problems would've been uncovered or fixed over the last 6 years.
  • . . .I walked away from WW ( thank god )after reading about lots of complaints & wound up with a used Fleetwood Gearbox 295FS; it is a 5th wheel, 30'6" & has MORE amenities than WW; Very satisfied with it; just the usual minor repairs from wear & tear. . .Lots of interior storage above cabinets also. . .FYI. . .YMMV
  • Thanks for the quick replies guys. Kart-racer and LowRyter Do you know what the issues were with this unit in the class action suit?

I read it and it does list the SL2805 in the suit in exhibit B, but it does not show any proposed fixes to any fifth wheels as it does on the bumper pull models in exhibit A.

I can handle the normal DIY fixes and appliance issues most rigs have, but I don't want to get into a structural issue that is way beyond my capabilities.

    Any others??
  • I bought a new 2006 SL2805 5th, have not had any issues other than normal maintenance.
I average 15k miles a year, but none on dirt. Only goes to race tracks.
  • I bought one new Nov 07. I have probably 20k miles on it and keep it covered. The converter electrical box was defective and replaced under warranty. Replaced two right side tries after a blow out on the last trip to Colorado. The igniter on the refrigerator went on a trip. Am always doing some maintenance like hinges and fasteners. I usually haul one, sometimes two full size motorcycles. It has some hail dents on the front cover. Remember to use tie fasteners on the futons to keep them from coming loose. Don't know what else to say. I care for it and use it for 3 or 4 trips a year (vacations, Indy 500, motorcycle events, etc). Thinking about going to Daytona Bikeweek in '14. Just retired so hope to use it more.
  • Is this one of the models the has the modular frame? Bent tounge recall? Axles way light?

I did some work on one for a friend of mine and it was WAY heavy for the chassis it was built on.
