You can add axles to any trailer. DRV uses the same frame (lippert) construction for the 38' rigs with 2 axles as the 43' with three axles. They are a little longer. Excel which I did a factory tour at builds their own frame and it looked very good. I would be concerned with the frame issue. If your frame engineered to take the added weight even with an extra axle? Good luck and let us know what you decide.
I have toured the DRV factory three times and have toured the Excel factory once. The two axle frames use two 2x6" that have 11 gauge side walls (about 1/8") and a 2x3" with 1/4" side wall for a total of 15" of stacked rectangular tubing. The triple axle frames use one 2x6" with 1/4" side wall, one 2x6" with 11 gauge side wall and the 2x3 with 1x4" side wall.
Excel only uses a 10" rectangular tubing frame with 1/4" side wall. That made it too small for me to consider them for my needs.
