When we rebuilt our deck at the house, I had several short lengths of cedar 4x4 and some 2 foot lengths of Trex decking. Two hours later I had four 12x12 jack pads with Ttrex on top and bottom. Attached the rope trick and use an old awning rod to move them around...works great and no issues with splitting...
They are about 6 inches tall but I like that because the shorter the jack legs are extended, the less the fiver moves around...
