Short, sweet and simple.
Trailer 10,000# fully loaded to limit is 10,000# as you stated. Of that 20% is going to be your pin or hitch weight so that's 2,000# in the bed of your truck.
A F250(2500) or F350(3500) is around 7,500# (gas) and 8,000# (diesel) full of fuel with a couple people and the hitch. Add 2,000# of trailer pin weight and you're at 9,500# (gas) or 10,000# (diesel, ball park. The F250(2500) is rated for 10,000# (ball park) and the F350(3500) is rated for 11,000# plus.
Personally I'd buy the F350(3500) diesel SRW with an engine brake and a vanity plate that says "Silly boy, trucks are for girls" and give her the truck. Sit back and enjoy the drive.
Granted the "hills" out east are not the same as the Rockies but I can run I-80 through PA with the cruise set at 60 mph and enjoy the view. Seriously, if I could not maintain 45 mph on a hill with my camper I'd get a bigger truck.
If companies did not turn down the semi's they'd go up the hill better two. The Cummins Signature 600 can push a 80,000# rig up Grapevine (CA) at 55 mph (speed limit). Had a truck before governed and ran PA turnpike loaded at 78,000# and ran the speed limit with only dropping one gear. Shop found it out and I was back in the granny lane at 45 mph foot to the floor.
